Often events at Speakers Corner (Hong Lim Park) are sparsely attended. However Saturday Jan 26th saw over 2 thousand supporters show up and listen to the speakers gathered for a rally event entitled Abuse of Process.
Abuse of Process is the counter-suit filed against the Prime Minister by Leong Sze Hian as he defends himself against the Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong who is suing him for sharing a post on Facebook.
The rally was not just about the legal case, but expanded into Rule of Law, Elitism, Meritocracy and financial areas such as how Singapore is the world leader in budget surpluses, effectively spending no money on Public healthcare, apartment buildings for sale or CPF (from a cashflow perspective).
Preferred media The Online Citizen recorded and Live-Streamed the event which has, to date received tens of thousands of views across social media.
Sze Hian’s lawyer Lim Tean gave a hard-hitting speech likening Leong Sze Hian to Rosa Parks, the African American lady who refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger. That one defining incident which saw the crumbling of established oppressive laws.
Lim Tean is also the party leader of a political party called Peoples Voice, a party which promises to return CPF at 55 (as was the original creation of the scheme), conduct referendums on policy of national interest, lower the voting age to 18, break up monopolies in the real estate, telco and banking arenas amongst its’ other manifesto points.
Leong Sze Hian spoke in both Chinese and English. He thanked supporters for the inundation of well wishing messages he has received. He admitted to having difficulty sleeping at times but then reading through all the messages puts his mind at ease and he can sleep quickly after that.
